This is the beginning of my saga of the De Agostini Studio Scale Millennium Falcon model build.
For those unfamiliar, De Agostini is a UK company that has a subscription model for, well, models. Each week they publish a magazine that comes bundled with a pack of parts for the model. The instructions are in the magazine in full color photos with great descriptions. The rest of the magazine is information about the topic the model is based on, in this case, the Millennium Falcon.
The US subscribers don’t get a weekly shipment, rather we get four of them monthly in one box. It will take 25 months to get all the parts for the model, but a piece this beautiful will be well worth it. Most studio scale model replicas are many thousands of dollars. This same Falcon was originally made by Master Replicas as a finished piece that was pre-built. That one is long sold out, and I wouldn’t be able to get it anyway. This is an expense that’s spread out over two years, and I get the enjoyment of building and modifying the model as I go. This model also includes aspects that the Master Replicas one didn’t, like some top panels coming off to reveal the lounge/cargo bay where a lot of the scenes from the films took place. I’m looking forward to detailing and lighting this part of the model too.
